Planning a visit to come to Shanghai or already here and not sure what to visit? Here are some suggestions:
The Bund 外滩
One of the places you must visit when you are in Shanghai is the Bund, a famous riverside promenade along the west shore of the Huangpu River. On the walkside you can find many historical western buildings and across the water, you’ll see Pudong
with many modern skyscrapers. The best time to visit the Bund is just before it gets dark, so you can see the Bund by day and by night.
Nanjing Road 南京路
If you like to go shopping, you might want to go to Nanjing Road. It’s the world’s longest shopping street, approximately 6 kilometers long, with more than 600 businesses. With over 1 million visitors daily, it can get really crowded.
People’s Square 人民广场
People’s square is the largest public square in Shanghai where you can find People’s Park, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, Shanghai Grand Theatre and Shanghai's municipal government building. People’s Square is ideal if you want to relax after a busy day. During the weekends it turns into a matchmaking market where many parents try to marry off their children.
Temples 寺庙
As in many Chinese cities, there are also a number of temples to visit in Shanghai. The most famous temples are Jade Buddha Temple, Longhua Temple & Pagoda, Jing'An Temple, Temple of the Town Gods and Confucius Temple.
Yuyuan Garden 豫园
Another tourist destination is the Yuyuan garden. It is located in the Old City of Shanghai and has a total area of 20,000 square meters. There are six main areas in the garden: Sansui Hall, Wanhua Chamber, Dianchun Hall, Huijing Hall, Yuhua Hall and
the Inner Garden. Each area is decorated with ancient trees, ponds, bridges and sculptures. So if you want to visit a classical Chinese garden, this is the place to be.
