Meet our scholarship winners
Meet our Scholarship winners!
Last July Hutong School selected 4 prospective students to receive a full scholarship for a 3-month internship in China program in Beijing, Shanghai or Chengdu. Now the winners have been selected and the dust has settled, it is time to put them in the spotlight!
Meet Rebecca!
你好!My name is Rebecca and I am an Economics and Business major. I have always been very interested in China and especially wanted to go to Shanghai. Therefore I applied for my Erasmus in Shanghai, unfortunately the program was not open to undergraduates, but I didn’t give up! The same day I started searching for other opportunities and luckily found Hutong School. I never gave up on my dream to go to Shanghai, and now I am almost there!
How did you hear about the scholarship opportunity?
I read about it in my university’s newsletter. The moment I read the first sentence I knew it was an opportunity that I needed to grab with both hands! I am very thankful to my university for corresponding new opportunities and challenges to its students, this was exactly what I was dreaming of.
Could you tell me what winning this scholarship means to you?
For me it means success. I feel appreciated for what I truly am and what I can do. For one of the first times in my life, I can actually achieve what I really really want and that feels so good. It all depends on yourself and how much you want something: winning this scholarship gave me the satisfaction that has boosted my motivation and self-esteem tremendously.
Meet Balázs!
Hello! My name is Balázs, 22 years old and originally from Hungary. When I graduated high school, I decided to start a new life and began studying in Denmark. To be able to accomplish this, I worked full-time for one year to save enough money to go abroad. Looking for extra challenges during my study, I started writing my own blog. In my free time I like to go to the gym, write my blog and work on my own start-up company. I love to travel and explore new countries and get to know new people!
Can you tell me what motivated you to apply for the scholarship?
Last year I have studied one semester in China and I discovered my dream. I had no doubts, I will do an internship in China. I fell in love with the vibe of the city, the surreal mix of economical levels among the inhabitants and expats in Shanghai and even more: their humility and hospitality. Furthermore, I am really interested and enthusiastic about helping students and I think Hutong School is a place where I could contribute the most with my previous experiences.
What are you most looking forward to during your time in China?
I am really looking forward to the new challenge this opportunity presents me. I am looking forward to an exiting job and learning as much as possible about marketing and sales! Also I would love to learn Chinese and be able to work with it in my future.
Meet Malvina!
Hi name is Malvina and I am studying Digital Asset and Media Management in London. A normal day for me would be working in my family business and writing my dissertation, but I would be lying if I said this is all I do! As an avid Instagrammer, I spend a lot of time admiring adventurous pictures and searching for new places to add to my bucket list. When I heard I got selected for the scholarship I immediately search for Instagram accounts with pictures of Shanghai to get a glimpse of what I am about to experience!
What will be the first thing you will do upon arriving in China?
Since this is my first trip outside of Europe, I will probably be very tired and want to go sleep directly. Just kidding!! I will want to see whole instantly! I have been dreaming about this day and I would not miss the chance to explore something new every day!
What influence this scholarship has on your future life?
I would love to travel around in China first and visit other cities as well. If it wasn’t for this scholarship, I wouldn’t be able to do all of this and embark on so many new adventures. The scholarship will undeniably broaden my horizons in all aspects and I am 110% ready to start this new adventure!
Meet Alessia!
Hi! My name is Alessia and I am 25 years old. Since High School I have had a passion for studying foreign languages; later I specialized this to studying Chinese since I find the country and culture very fascinating. I really love traveling all around the world, enjoying new cultures and way of live. In the future I want to become a Conference Interpreter; so that I will be able to foster and enhance communication between speakers of different languages. In my spare time I teach figure skating.
What are your plans after the internship in China?
I would love to find a job in an international company as an interpreter. I think the scholarship can give the right instruments to enter the working world in a smooth way. I think this internship will be such a great experience and I look forward to meeting new people from all over the world!
