Furniture, paper and forestry products industry started 2021 with an increase in exports
Despite negative developments such as Kovid-19 restrictions, the contraction in global trade, and the decrease in general exports last year, the sector, which realized an export of 5.6 billion$, closed the year with a surplus and achieved great success.
The new year has also entered the new year with an increase in exports in furniture, paper and forestry products. In January, an increase of $ 454 million was achieved with an increase of 0.28 percent compared to the same period last year. He noted that 285 million$ of this figure consists of furniture.
While most furniture exports were made to Germany, USA, France, Israel and England, the provinces with the highest sales were listed as Istanbul, Bursa, Kayseri, Ankara, Izmir, Kocaeli, Gaziantep, Sirnak, Hatay and Denizli.
2021 target of an additional $ 1 billion in exports
Ahmet Güleç, chairman of the Istanbul Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters Association, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they exported5.6 billion$ in 2020 and that they entered the new year with great motivation and that they aim to export more than 1 billion$ this year.
Güleç said, “We are carefully implementing the strategy we have set up to reach our 2023 target of 10 billion$. We are the 8th largest exporter in the world only on the furniture side. Here, we can become one of the 5 most important supplier countries in the world.” said.
Referring to the importance of exporting furniture to developed markets such as the USA and European countries, Güleç said, “We find the dominance and influence in developed country markets both strategic and important. We grew 8.7 percent in January in the UK market with which we have a Free Trade Agreement. . ” he spoke.
Expressing that the furniture price per kilogram is over 3 dollars in priority markets such as Europe and the USA, Güleç stated that they want to increase this figure with innovative products with high added value, strong design.

Ahmet Güleç stated that they achieved great success both in the entire industry and in furniture despite the epidemic conditions, and made the following statements:
“Our work in the US market, which grew by 16 percent last year, will expand and grow in 2021. We have recently made contacts in the USA. We are planning to open centers in design centers in the USA, which is the world’s largest furniture importer with 40 billion$. We are carrying out the pandemic in a slow but cautious way. With this center, we anticipate that US exports will continue with a growth that will provide more added value. “
Güleç said that the trainings continue at the Furniture Academy, which they opened to train the foreign trade experts needed by the sector.
Stating that the negative effects of the epidemic have not disappeared for today, Güleç stated that they are more than hopeful for 2021 with vaccination studies.
